About Tulum National Park

Tulum National Park

Tulum National Park, located on the eastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, is famous for its spectacular location beside the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. The park protects ancient Mayan ruins dating back to the late Postclassic period (AD 1200–1521), an era marked by the flourishing of coastal trade. The main temple, known as El Castillo, stands on a 12-meter-high cliff, offering breathtaking ocean views. Besides its archaeological significance, Tulum is part of the second-largest barrier reef system in the world, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. Visitors can explore its beaches, snorkel in coral reefs, and discover the flora and fauna characteristic of the region, including sea turtles, iguanas, and a variety of tropical birds. The park's unique combination of history, culture, and natural beauty makes it a must-visit destination for history buffs and nature enthusiasts.
